It's not complicated.

I love you Tim, but not as much as I love my girlfriend, my soon to be ex-husband and our daughter.

(2) So. Why Tim Minchin?

Updated: Apr 10, 2020

Because I like the words that come out of his mouth. And I like the way he delivers them.

In his Occasional Address to the University of Western Australia in 2013, he gives nine life lessons to the graduates. I want to dwell on this one first. Number Seven.

' 7. Define Yourself By What You Love I’ve found myself doing this thing a bit recently, where, if someone asks me what sort of music I like, I say “well I don’t listen to the radio because pop lyrics annoy me”. Or if someone asks me what food I like, I say “I think truffle oil is overused and slightly obnoxious”. And I see it all the time online, people whose idea of being part of a subculture is to hate Coldplay or football or feminists or the Liberal Party. We have tendency to define ourselves in opposition to stuff; as a comedian, I make a living out of it. But try to also express your passion for things you love. Be demonstrative and generous in your praise of those you admire. Send thank-you cards and give standing ovations. Be pro-stuff, not just anti-stuff.'

YES Tim. I HEAR you..

Mountains, wild swimming, Tom Waits, Yann Tiersen, doc martens, snow, duck, lobster, beaches, the Forth Rail Bridge, the Bealach Na Ba, wild camping..... these are in no order, this is free word association of people and things I LOVE..... charity shop bargains, that music from Hannibal (Vide Cor Meum), bookshelves, driftwood, foraging for mushrooms, staves with music on them, strings of lights, the hammock, barefoot walking, nude swimming, paddle boarding, kite flying, Lisa Hannigann's songs, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Life Is Beautiful, A Room With A View, old glass fishing floats, hirondelles, the Cold Song (Sting), the Cold Song (Klaus Nomi), the Cold Song (Purcell), Jane Eyre, Persuasion, Fareinheit 451, Lord Of The Rings, Guess How Much I Love You.....

Ian, Katrina, Tim and Isabelle (in chronological order of how long you have been in my life). My husband, my daughter, my hero, my girlfriend.

I take your advice Tim. I am Pro Stuff. I am standing.
